KARL HUGO has a complete CNC workshop for carrying out large-scale boring work.
KARL HUGO's workshop features two state-of-the-art TOS WHN 13 horizontal boring machines. These tooling machines enable precise shaping of the interior of a cylinder or hollow piece. They are equipped with a 60-position automatic tool changer. The rotation and movement of the cutting tool allow for the creation of various shapes, even the most complex ones.
“These boring machines allow us to machine large parts, with a weight of up to 15 tons,“ details Erich Krings, Production Manager. “KARL HUGO specializes in machining such parts. We machine, among other things, particle accelerators for the world leader in proton therapy.“
The surface of the rotary table with 360,000 positions measures 1800 x 2500 mm. It moves along a longitudinal axis of 3500 mm. Its rotational speed is 3000 revolutions per minute. The vertical Y-axis stroke is 2500 mm, and the transverse Z-axis stroke is 1250 mm. Additionally, the movable column has a spindle with a diameter of 130 mm that can extend by 650 mm. “We are capable of machining parts in all materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper or cast iron.“
Both TOS WHN 13 boring machines are equipped with a HEIDENHAIN TNC CNC control system. Furthermore, they meet the latest safety, environmental and ecological standards. “These machines contribute to reducing our carbon footprint,“ adds the Production Manager. “They are equipped, among other things, with a chip conveyor whose chips are then recycled.“ Moreover, the coolant used for boring is collected and treated internally before being reused in production.
