The KARL HUGO milling workshop is equipped with a CORREA FOX-60 gantry milling machine, which offers significant added value for machining large parts, complementing the four vertical lathes perfectly.
Weighing a total of 70 tons, the CORREA FOX-60 is used for machining large parts that require high precision. The dimensions of the worktable and gantry allow for machining oversized parts that cannot be handled by conventional milling machines. “It allows for flat machining of parts up to 3 meters wide and 6 meters long, with a maximum total weight of 15 tons,” notes Erich Krings, Production Manager. One of the key advantages of the gantry milling machine is the flexibility it provides in the manufacturing process. “Thanks to its multiple axes of movement and its orthogonal milling head that can be indexed every 0.02 degrees, it can produce very complex shapes in a single operation without needing to move or rotate the part,” explains Maxime Veithen, Operator.
With a table surface of 6500 x 2500 mm, it moves along a longitudinal axis of 6000 mm. The Y-axis transverse travel is 3750 mm, and the Z-axis vertical travel is 1500 mm. The CORREA FOX-60 combines a high roughing capacity with high-performance machining precision, with real-time temperature control on the Z-axis. “It increases productivity while maintaining high-quality standards,” adds the Production Manager. It is capable of working with various materials, including steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, cast iron, and titanium. It can perform multiple operations: milling, drilling, and tapping.
The CORREA FOX-60 gantry milling machine is equipped with a tool changer with a magazine for 60 tools and a HEIDENHAIN TNC 640 numerical control. The ability to control machine movement via digital commands ensures extreme precision. Additionally, it features a water filtration and reconditioning system that allows water to be reused in a closed circuit.
